What Is A Funeral Order Of Service?
The way in which funerals are conducted by the various religious groups can vary. Some church denominations follow very specific guidelines for a funeral service. Those religions which have a religious church ceremony will require a funeral order of service for the attendees and denotes the itinerary for the service. It is good practice to check with your chosen pastor or member of the clergy to determine any special requirements or guidelines relating to the deceased religious beliefs.
The standard format for an order of service sheet is a four page A5 folded booklet. Extra pages can be added to the booklet in multiples of four allowing for a longer service or more information to be contained. Typically the front cover of the booklet will contain the full legal name, date of birth and date of death of the deceased and may have a photograph and a caption such as “In Loving Memory”.
The inner pages of the funeral order of service booklet typically contain the details of the service such as hymns, prayers and readings and other information such as the entrance and exit music. Personal remembrance and acknowledgement messages may also be contained inside the content of the order of service.
The back cover of the service sheet will usually contain special messages of thanks from the family and details for where the wake is to be held. If any special donation details of a charity are required then these are placed on the back page of the order of service.
A religious service is usually carried out by a member of the clergy or pastor of the church but can also be led by a family member in non religious services. Readings are usually read aloud by a family member or friend. A number of hymns and prayers can be selected to be sung or read throughout the service and personal music selections can be played from CD or sung by a choir.
